Local furniture maker Nicholas Hobbs is featured in a book
just published by Stobart Davies. The book, Celebrating Boxes,
features 'a wide range of work by sixty eight of the world's
finest, most diverse and creative box makers.'
Authors Peter Lloyd and Andrew Crawford, both professional
box makers themselves, have brought together a diverse collection
of boxes - from finely sculpted creations to pieces which
bring a smile to the face, and from the lasting appeal of
the classically designed jewellery box to the modern wooden
hinged chest. Accompanied by over 250 colour photographs,
the individual designers of the boxes which opened at Tullie
House Museum and Art Gallery, Carlisle, will be heading for
the prestigious Oxo Tower Gallery, London between 14 December
and 13 January. Following other UK venues, the exhibition
will then tour internationally.
